Before I begin sharing the reflections I’ve been working on, I want to say something important.
I’m not a doctor.
I’m not a therapist.
And I’m certainly not claiming to have all the answers.
What I’m sharing here is simply my own experience — how the last several years have affected me, and what I’ve learned from it so far.
If any of that ends up being helpful to someone else, then it will have been worth sharing.
Over the past few years, my life has been shaped by a series of events that forced me into a place I can only describe as survival mode.
A cancer diagnosis.
The loss of a kidney.
A year of chemotherapy.
Emergency spinal fusion surgery.
The loss of my dog Cooper, who meant the world to me.
A second cancer pre-diagnosis, leading to an additional 6 month period of fright.
My partner, losing his job, and then me, losing mine.
And the constant cycle of scans, tests, waiting, and wondering if the cancer had returned.
Anyone who has been through something like that understands how it begins to change the way you think.
You stop planning too far ahead.
You start bracing for the next piece of bad news.
And after a while, survival mode becomes the way your mind operates.
Recently, something happened that changed the direction of that story in a way that surprised both my doctors and me.
And that moment created a shift in perspective that I’m still trying to understand.
What I’ve realized since then is that experiences like this reshape the way you see life.
They change how you think about hope.
About kindness.
About creativity.
They change the way we show up for each other.
So the videos and posts that follow are simply reflections from someone who has been through that experience and is now trying to understand what it means.
Some of these ideas may resonate with you.
Some of them may not.
And some of them may simply reflect where I am in this moment of my life.
But if even one of these reflections helps someone else see their own struggles a little differently… then sharing them will have been worth it.
So this is simply the beginning.
